You will have the opportunity to experience what life was like for the Vietcong guerrillas who lived and fought underground during the war with the Americans and the South Vietnamese. You will be able to crawl through 50 m (150 ft.) out of the some 200 km of tunnels which run under the Cu Chi area's underground complex. We will also visit a rice paper workshop where handmade paper is made. Enroute, you will enjoy spectacular scenic vistas, including eye-popping views of our rice paddy fields which stretch off from the road as far as the eye can see.
Depart at 08:00 from Saigon for the Cu Chi tunnels. Arriving at 09:30, there will be a short film and presentation about the tunnels and their history. The Cu Chi tunnels were created in 1948 to as part of Vietnam’s conflict against the colonial French. Construction of the tunnels continued over the next 25 years, until they became an underground city with living areas, kitchens, storage, weapons factories, field hospitals and command centres, by this time being used in the war against the Americans. For those interested, there is an opportunity to fire off rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range. Leave Cu Chi at around noon, we’ll arrive back in HCMC at approximately 2pm.
